Serve
I believe that a commitment to client-centered service means serving library users equally, no matter their background, ethnicity, culture, technological skill set, belief system, age, sexual orientation, first language, or life situation. These beliefs are a natural outgrowth who I am and my years in journalism.
I always worked hard to behave ethically and with integrity. I realized that my graduate studies make it easier to incorporate both the American Library Association’s Code of Ethics and Library Bill of Rights into my work on a daily basis. I think that exposure to my graduate school colleagues has made it easier to meet these ideals in practice.
Through one classmates’ work with senior citizens, I gained an expanded understanding of the impact age can have learning and the processing of information. I applied this new knowledge to create the online Face Book for Seniors tutorial (below).
I learned the best practices for serving seniors and I apply this knowledge daily as I balance service to older adults with teens at the library where I work.
